Because we plan to buy most of our storage furniture from Ikea, we went to an Ikea store yesterday to have a look. It was my first time going to an Ikea store so I was surprised how big it was. It was like a maze and I thought without my husband I would have been lost in there. Below are some photos I took at the store and what we plan to do with our place.

The construction process has been going pretty fast. We have come to the site every other day to check on the process and we plan on continuing to do so. In the first week they got the footing in and the foundation was done in the second week. We had an independent inspector come in to check the foundation at the end of the second week so they haven't back-filled the ground yet. They planned to back-fill the ground on Monday but I've checked the weather and it is supposed to rain the whole week so I'm very worried that there will be a delay. The inspector thought Ryan Homes had been doing a very good job so far and that really made our day! Below are some photos taken during the first 2 week of the construction. As a quick update, we broke ground on Wednesday (04/05/2017) but the rain caused the "footing" step to be delayed to Monday 04/10/2017. What they did is excavating the site with large machines and grading the land to promote proper drainage. However, the engineer found some unsuitable soil (which is not good enough to hold the weight of the foundation) on one part where the foundation will sit on so they would have to continue to dig until they hit better soil, then replace the bad soil with lifts and dry soil that is more suitable for the foundation. That adds 2 more days to the delay so the footing is now pushed to Wednesday 04/12/2017. Below are a few photos of the site. We paid extra to have a premium home site: we won't have another house right next to us on the left side (if we're facing the house) nor behind us; from the back of the house we will see only trees and a pond on the left of the backyard. As mentioned in my previous post Looking for The Perfect Sectionals and Sofas, we fell in love with the Tillary Collection from West Elm. I did order some swatches but feeling the swatches is not the same as actually sitting on the sectional/sofa and feeling the fabric. So we came back to the West Elm store near us today to look at the fabrics available for this particular collection: Chenille Tweed, Faux Suede, Marled Microfiber, and Performance Velvet. I've read some reviews stating that Faux Suede and Marled Microfiber are not so good in the sense that they might become loose and wrinkly at the spot where people sit on the most, so my choices are narrowed down to Chenille Tweed and Performance Velvet. I'm considering the colors below (click for larger images): I want the 2 light colors while my husband prefers the dark ones. He wants to create contrast because our carpet and wall will be in light gray and off-white colors but I'm afraid a big piece of furniture in a dark color will take away the attention from the stone fireplace which is meant to be the focal point here. Anyways, our bigger problem is to choose between Chenille Tweed and Performance Velvet.
When we sat on the Tillary sectional they had at the store today which was in Chenille Tweed fabric, it felt quite rough to me as opposed to the comfortable feel I'm looking for. Additionally, there's a review stating that West Elm Tweed fabric pills like crazy, and although the type I'm looking at here is Chenille Tweed, it does look like it would do the same thing as the Tweed fabric. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any review on the Chenille Tweed. Performance Velvet feels super nice! However, choosing this fabric would cost us over $1,000 more for the family room seating furniture than choosing the Chenille Tweed. And again, it's hard to find reviews on Performance Velvet so I don't know if it's even worth the splurge. Although it'll be a few months before we could move in, I know for a fact that West Elms normally take 2-4 months to make and deliver a sofa so we wouldn't have anything to sit on after we move if the sectional doesn't arrive on time. If you have any experience on these 2 fabrics, please let me know in the comment section below. I would really appreciate it! It finally came, the time for us and the PM to sit down and go through all of the options we'd made as well as any questions we had. Unfortunately, none of our requests to make changes during the construction was accepted. Below are the answers we got during the meeting. There are some questions we didn't ask since they are either not important or already mentioned as he went through our options.
